Why Do Jamaicans Need A JP/Doctor/Lawyer’s For Basic Things?

The reference system in Jamaica is pathetic and outdated, plain and simple.

Why should a full-grown adult have to get approval for basic things like bank accounts?

Every time you try and do something in Jamaica you run into this signature and recommendation nonsense. People are fed up now.

Why are doctors, lawyers, senior police etc given so much power over people’s lives? Are these people immune to corruption? are they holy beings whose words are directed by the Lord himself?

This system is an outdated colonial relic that was used to keep certain people in their place.

These gatekeepers are given the ability to allow or block full-grown adults from getting things they should be entitled to.

What if Mary is miserable unfriendly and doesn’t like to mix with people, does that mean she shouldn’t get a bank account?

What if John was living abroad since he is young and doesn’t know anybody in Jamaica, does that mean he shouldn’t get a licensed firearm to protect his life and property? nonsense.

The only people who love this system are those who benefit from it. A lot of those gatekeepers take a “ting” to say evil people are good.

Facts.

  1. This is a dumb gatekeeping system and an internal tax on Jamaicans. If someone wanted to know why Jamaica was not experiencing the production levels desired, further increases in entrepreneurs, or increasing numbers of those in the banking system, this is it.

This is a very restrictive internal barrier to getting a more internally robust and productive Jamaica. If the govt wants a quick increase to GDP, they should deal with low hanging fruit Luke this. This is not to say I don’t recognize that plenty of people benefit off of this system, but keep in mind there are many Jamaicans who benefit off of keeping Ja weak.
